The Mountain Grove Panthers scored nine runs in the 2nd inning en route to a five-inning 12-1 victory over the Salem Tigers Wednesday at Mountain Grove in the regular season finale. Salem had only two hits in the game and Luke Christensen had both of them. The Tigers finished the regular season with a 7-15 record.
The 4th seeded Salem Baseball Tigers will face the 5th seeded St. James Tigers this afternoon in the first round of district play. Game time is 4:30 at St. Clair. KSMO Radio will join the Salem-St. James game in progress following the conclusion of the St. Louis Cardinals game. The entire game can be audio streamed on ksmoradio.com, the KSMO Stream Facebook Page and the KSMO YouTube Page starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards around 4:15. The game will also be video streamed on MSHSAA.TV and there is a fee to watch the game. Admission at the gate is $6.00 per person who is six years of age and older. The winner of the game will face Potosi Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
The Alice Lou Craig Municipal Pool will open Saturday, May 23rd in the Salem City Park. The pool will be open Monday through Saturday from noon to 6:00 PM and Sunday from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Daily admission will be $6.00 for children from 3 to 13, and also $6.00 for adults. A four-person pool pass will be available for purchase for $220, while an individual pass will be available for $80 beginning on the 23rd at the pool front desk. You can also book your pool parties starting on the 23rd at the pool front desk as well. Water aerobics and swim lessons will be starting soon. Salem Tigers Boys Basketball Coach Jared Patterson will hold his basketball camp starting Tuesday, May 26th and lasting through Friday, May 29th. 3rd through 5th grade boys can attend camp from 3:30 to 4:30, 6th through 8th graders camp attend camp from 4:30 until 6:00, and 9th through 12th graders can attend camp from 6:00 to 8:00. The cost is $40 and it does include a camp T-shirt. Sign-up forms are available at the Salem Community Center@The Armory as well as all the schools. After the St. Louis Cardinals scored six runs against the Athletics on Tuesday, the favor was returned as the Athletics beat the Cardinals 6-2. Nick Kurtz of the Athletics did the most damage on the night with a grand slam in the fifth. Nathan Church and Ivan Herrera batted in the pair of runs for the Red Birds in the fourth and seventh. With the series tied at one, the deciding game of the series will be this afternoon on KSMO Radio with the pregame show at 1:10 and first pitch at 2:05.
