The Salem Baseball Tigers lost to Waynesville Friday, 11-5. A four-run Waynesville attack in the 2nd inning put them on top as they added single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings before tacking on three more runs in the 5th inning. Maison Sanders and Aaron White each had two hits while White and Hayden Ragsdale each had two RBI. The Tigers will be at Mountain Grove to face the Panthers in an SCA Conference matchup starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 2-3 SCA Conference record, while Mountain Grove is 3-3 in the conference. Salem enters the game with a 5-9 overall record and Mountain Grove is 9-13 for the year. The Salem Baseball JV Tigers fell to Mountain View last Thursday, 6-4 as Dalton Franklin and Nick Hardecke each had two hits. Friday, the Salem JV fell to Waynesville, 11-1. Salem had only two hits in that game. The Salem JV is 3-6 on the year, and they will face Mountain Grove tonight after the varsity game.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers hosted their Softball Classic Saturday as Friday’s games were postponed due to wet grounds, and the entire tournament was held on Saturday. Salem beat the Licking Wildcats, 9-1 before falling to Mountain Grove, 6-5 to end their nine game winning streak. The Lady Tigers then played in the 3rd place game against Plato and lost to the Lady Eagles, 17-2. Ava won the Salem Softball Classic by beating Steelville, 22-0, then shutting out Plato, 3-0 in the semi-final. In the championship game, Ava edged Mountain Grove, 6-2. The Salem Lady Tigers, who are 13-6 on the year, will play Thayer in an SCA Conference makeup game Tuesday at the Salem City Park that was rained out earlier in the year.
The Salem Tennis Tigers beat Licking Friday in a makeup match Friday at the Salem City Park, 5-4. The tennis Tigers are 12-4 on the year and they will participate in Class 1, District 5 individual tournament Thursday at Logan-Rogersville.
The Salem Golf Team will be at Houston for the SCA Golf Tournament today.
The Salem varsity track teams will be at St. James for their Invitational today starting around 3:00.
Masyn Winn batted in a pair of runs on two hits Friday as the Cardinals fell to the Mariners 3-2. On Saturday it was home run season in St. Louis as four Cardinals and three Mariners hit a pitch out of the park and Nathan Church bagged two homers. Seattle came back late to defeat St. Louis 11-9. Yesterday the Cardinals were swept for the first time this season, falling to the Mariners, 3-2. Today the Cardinals will be in Pittsburgh to start a new series with the Pirates.
