Tucker Sassmann went 4-4 with two RBI and a run scored to help lead the Owensville Dutchmen past the Salem Baseball Tigers Monday at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex, 8-2. The Dutchmen banged out 10 hits and took advantage of five Salem errors and four walks. Salem was led by Wayne Skidmore with two hits while Dannon Berry and Hayden Ragsdale had RBI hits. The Tigers fall to 2-3 on the year, and they will be at Licking this afternoon starting at 5:00.

In the Mountain Grove Softball SCA Tournament Saturday, the Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to both the Lady Ava Bears and the Houston Lady Tigers. In the Houston game, Salem grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, but the Houston Lady Tigers scored four 1st inning runs and never looked back, edging the Salem Lady Tigers, 5-3. Bailey Mahurin had two hits to lead the Tigers with Alaina Norris getting the lone Salem RBI in the game. In the Ava game, five unearned runs doomed the Lady Tigers as they lost 9-4. Alaina Norris had two of the Lady Tiger six hits to lead Salem while Josie Bowers, Alexis White, Izzy Thomas and Bailey Mahurin drove in runs for the Lady Tigers. 

On Monday at the Salem City Park, the Salem Lady Softball Tigers scored eight runs in the 1st inning and beat the Stoutland Lady Tigers, 13-6. Salem had seven extra base hits with Maddie Mercer and Josie Bowers each having two doubles. Bowers finished with three RBI while Bailey Mahurin and Alexis White each had two RBI’s. White also had three singles in the game for Salem, who improves to 3-2 on the year. They will host the Potosi Lady Trojans today at 4:30. The Salem Tiger Tennis match with Houston scheduled for today has been postponed due to a Houston scheduling error, and the makeup date has yet to be announced. Salem will face the Potosi Trojans Wednesday afternoon at the Salem City Park starting at 4:00.

The Salem Golf Team will host the Salem Open today starting at 3:00 at the Spring Creek Golf Club in their first action of the year.

The New York Mets were in St. Louis last night to face the Cardinals. Going into the bottom of the sixth the Cards were down three runs when Nolan Gorman hit a solo home run trying to rally the Cards back. Defense became the name of the game for the remainder of the night, and the Mets held on for the 4-2 victory. Game two of this three game series begins tonight at 6:45 and you can listen to it live on KSMO Radio following Salem Lady Tiger Softball.

The St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks started their game off last night with a combined five goals in the first period. Unfortunately for Blues fans, it was the Sharks with the early 3-2 advantage. The Sharks would maintain their lead until Cam Fowler tied the game up at four halfway through the third. Just as it looked like the game would go into overtime, the Sharks scored the final goal, delivering a 5-4 loss for the Blues. The road trip continues tomorrow night in Los Angeles as the Blues will face the Kings.
