Gavin Sapaugh scored 24 points and hauled down 12 rebounds to help the Salem Tigers to a 54-51 win over the Cuba Wildcats in the FCNB Bank Tournament in Sullivan. Lincoln Thomas and Eli Wofford each scored ten points for the Tigers in the win, while Braden Gipson netted 20 points for Cuba in the loss. Salem improves to 2-0 on the year and they will play St. James tonight at 8:30 in one of the winner’s bracket semi-finals. The other winner’s bracket semi-final will feature Potosi against Warrenton starting at 7:00 in Sullivan. The winners of those two semi-finals will play for the championship at 8:30 Friday night in Sullivan.

The Mizzou Basketball Tigers took on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavilion last night in their first big test of the season. The bright spots for the Tigers were Mark Mitchell and Jacob Crews scoring 26 and 22 points on the night. They lead in scoring for both teams. However, as a team, Mizzou was outmatched by Notre Dame who scored higher percentages in field goals, three pointers, and free throws. In a close one, the Fighting Irish claimed a five point victory over the Tigers, 76-71 ending the Tigers’ undefeated run. Up next for Mizzou is a trip to Kansas where the Tigers will face the Jayhawks on Sunday at noon.
