The Salem Varsity Lady Volleyball Tigers fell to the Dutchgirls of Owensville in four sets. Owensville won the first two sets: 25-17 and 25-16, before the Lady Tigers rallied in third contest from a six-point deficit to win, 25-22. In the fourth set, it was all Owensville as they built a 20-5 lead and won 25-10. Salem falls to 1-3 on the year and they participate in the West Plains Showdown on Saturday. Their next home match will be Monday against Cuba.

The Salem JV Volleyball Tigers beat Owensville in three sets, 2-1. Salem won the first set, 25-16, lost the second set, 18-25, then won the third set, 25-16. The freshman Lady Volleyball Tigers played one set and lost, 25-12. The JV will be back in action Monday when the Cuba Lady Wildcats will be in town starting at 5:30.

The Salem 7th grade Football Tigers played to an 8-8 tie at Willow Springs Thursday night while the 8th graders beat the Bears, 44-0. The Tigers will play Mountain Grove next Thursday at Bill Schuchardt Stadium starting at 5:30 with the 7th grade game with the 8th grade game to follow.

The Salem Varsity Football Tigers travel to Houston to face the Tigers in SCA Conference play tonight starting at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 1-1 record and Houston is also 1-1. The Missouri Football Tigers face Louisiana Saturday in a game that is now starting at 12:00 noon instead of 3:00 due to the expected heat. Missouri is 2-0 and Louisiana is 1-1. The game can be heard on KSMO Radio at noon Saturday.

The St. Louis Cardinals had Thursday off and travel to Milwaukee to keep their slim playoff hopes alive after being swept by the Seattle Mariners to start the week. The game tonight will be delayed due to Salem Tiger football and will begin around 9:30 on KSMO. The game Saturday begins at 5:15 and Sunday’s game starts at 12:15 on KSMO Radio.

The Cleveland Guardians scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to come back and beat Kansas City Thursday, 3-2. With the loss, the Royals fall to 4 1/2 games out of the wild card final spot. Kansas City will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in a three-game set starting tonight in the City of Brotherly Love.
