Tonight is the opening night of the 2025 Salem Sports season as the Salem Football Tigers will host the St. James Football Tigers at Bill Schuchardt Stadium starting at 7:00. St. James has beaten the Salem Tigers four straight times including once in District play with Salem totally dominating the series before that streak. Coach Neal Myers talks about the spring and summer workouts, the jamboree and will introduce your Salem Tiger starters on offense and defense on Tiger Talk heard prior to the game starting around 6:25 on KSMO Radio (AM1340 and FM 95.7) and video streamed on KSMO Media (ksmoradio.com, KSMO Stream Facebook Page and the KSMO YouTube Page). Thomas Saggese hit a tie-breaking 7th inning double, and Jordan Walker followed with a two-run homer as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Pittsburgh, 4-1 to split their four-game series. The Cardinals start a three-game series at Cincinnati with the first game delayed tonight until after Salem Tiger Football. Game 2 will begin at 4:45 Saturday afternoon with morning contest Sunday following the First Baptist Church Program. The Cardinals will be at home to face the Sacramento Athletics Labor Day Monday at 1:15.
The Kansas City Royals had Thursday off and begin a critical three-game series with the American League Central Division 1st Place Detroit Tigers with games tonight and Saturday night, culminating with a Sunday afternoon contest. On Labor Day, the Royals will host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starting at 6:40. Kansas City is three games behind Seattle in the Wild Card race and are 8 1/2 games behind Detroit in the Central Division.
The Mizzou Tigers got out to a strong start to their season defeating the Central Arkansas Bears 61-6. Beau Pribula threw 23 of 28 for 283 yards and two touchdowns on the night. Marquis Johnson had five receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown. Ahmad Hardy complimented the passing game rushing for 102 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. Mizzou will host their rival Kansas Jayhawks next week Saturday afternoon.
