The St. Louis Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Rays finished a three-game series yesterday. Poor weather conditions delayed the start of the game by four hours and twenty-five minutes. The Cardinals’ offense seemed delayed as well, as they wouldn’t get on the board until the seventh inning, when a Jordan Walker single allowed Alec Burleson to score. By that time, the Rays had already built a large lead on the back of a grand slam home run. The Cardinals lost the game, 7-2, and dropped the series, 2-1. St. Louis will begin a new series at home tonight against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Listen to the game live on KSMO 1340 AM & 95.7 FM, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 and pregame coverage beginning at 5:50.

The Kansas City Royals held off the Detroit Tigers yesterday and avoided the sweep. In the top of the third the Royals scored six runs including a two-run Vinnie Pasquantino home run. Detroit battled back and reclaimed the lead in the fifth. A Kyle Isbel single brought in two runs returning the lead back to the Royals. By the end of play the Royals defeated the Tigers, 10-8. The Royals will travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox tonight at 6:40.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears finished their preseason in Arrowhead Stadium on Friday. Patrick Mahomes completed 8 of 13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown while leading three scoring drives. Isiah Pacheco added a short rushing score, and Rashee Rice caught a four-yard touchdown pass as the Chiefs built a 20-10 halftime lead. In the second half with the starters resting the Bears mounted a comeback to win the game 29-27. Kansas City will play their season opener Friday night, September 5th against the Los Angeles Chargers with kickoff scheduled for 7:00.
