The St. Louis Cardinals hosted the Washington Nationals last night. The first pitch didn’t cross home plate until after a two hour, nineteen minute rain delay. The Nationals got on the board first in the top of the third with a pair of runs batted in. Brendan Donovan responded with a two run home run in the bottom of the third, followed up by Masyn Winn crossing home courtesy of an Alec Burleson double. A Lars Nootbaar homer in the sixth extended the Cards lead to two. A few scoreless innings later and the Cardinals defeated the Nationals, 4-2. Game two will be live tonight on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM with pregame coverage starting at 5:40. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 and there is only a 10% chance of rain in the forecast over Busch Stadium in downtown St. Louis tonight.

The Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates played their second game in a three game series yesterday. Jac Caglianone homered in the second putting the Royals up by one early. The Pirates would overtake the Royals with a pair of solo home runs, one in the fourth and the other in the seventh. Later in the bottom of the seventh Nick Loftin homered putting the Royals back on top but would have to return in the ninth after the Pirates tied the game up at three. Loftin hit a single that drove in Maikel Garcia to defeat the Pirates 4-3. The Royals are looking for the sweep tonight at 6:40.
