The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox played a doubleheader yesterday. In the first game the Cardinals found themselves down 4-2 after six. In the top of the eighth inning Willson Contreras hit a two run home run tying up the game briefly before a Yohel Pozo single brought in Nolan Gorman. The score would stand for a Red Bird winner 5-4. About 40 minutes later the first pitch of the second game crossed home plate. Ryan Noda hit a solo White Sox home run early in the second for the first run scored in the game but Alec Burleson responded with a two run home run, followed by Nolan Arenado’s 350th career home run. Going into the bottom of the seventh the Cards were leading 6-2 when Andrew Benintendi hit a grand slam home run to tie it all up at six. In extra innings a Nolan Arenado RBI and Lars Nootbaar home run sealed the Cardinal victory, 8-6 sweeping the White Sox. The Kansas City Royals swept the Texas Rangers yesterday afternoon scoring all four runs on three home runs, two of which belonged to Jac Caglianone. The Royals held the Rangers to one run on three hits. The Royals are off to San Diego to face the Padres tonight at 8:40.
