The Salem Basketball Tigers hit five first half three-pointers, including three from Cayden Moody, as they built a 15-point halftime lead and cruised to a 62-41 win over St. Clair Monday night at Owensville. Salem was led by Gavin Sapaugh and Braiden Gapsch who each netted 16 points. Moody finished with 13 points as Salem outrebounded St. Clair, 26-11 in the game, but Salem struggled from the free throw line in the 4th quarter only hitting 6 of 16 shots, finishing 12-24 on the night. The Tigers advance to the district semi-final Wednesday night at 5:30 against Cuba at Owensville. Salem goes into the game Wednesday with a 13-14 record but have won three of their last four and six of their last nine. Cuba enters the game with a 13-11 record, but they have lost five of their last six games. Admission Wednesday at Owensville is $6.00 per person for anyone 6 years of age and up.
The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will face the Cuba Lady Wildcats/Viburnum Lady Jays combo in the first round of District play tonight at Cuba at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 4-21 record and have lost their last 14 games. Cuba/Viburnum comes into the game with a 14-11 overall record, but they are 2-5 in their seven games. The Wildcats/Jays beat Salem back on February 10th, 70-27. Admission to the game is $6.00 per person for anyone six years of age and older.
