The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers beat Mansfield Saturday in the Scallywag Showdown in Norwood by the score of 51-46. Ashton Bowers scored 26 points to lead the Lady Tigers to 3rd place in the tournament and they are now 5-1 on the year. The Lady Tigers will play in the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic in Sullivan tonight against St. James the game has been moved up to 7:00 from the original start time. Salem is seeded 6th in the tournament.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers got off to horrible start at St. James Friday night, falling behind 18-5 in the 1st quarter before battling back to take a lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, 40-39, Two key three-pointers by Chris Boone and foul trouble in the 4th quarter got the best of Salem and they fell to St. James Friday night, 63-57. Salem was led by Braiden Carmack with 20 points while Boone also finished with 20 points for St. James. Salem falls to 0-2 on the year and they will host Rolla Tuesday night at the SHS Gym. A limited amount of vouchers for the game Tuesday are available at the high school office today.
The Missouri Tigers had four players in double figures and held off a large surge by the Fightin‘ Illini Saturday night to edge Illinois, 81-78 in the Bragging Rights Game. The Tigers were led in scoring by Dru Smith with 18 points followed by Xavier Pinson with 17 points. Other Tigers in double figures were Javon Pickett with 14 points and Kobe Brown with 12 more. Missouri is 5-0 on the season and they will play Bradley Tuesday night.
The Georgia Bulldogs scored 21 3rd quarter points to break open what was a close game at halftime of 21-14, and propelled the Bulldogs to a 49-14 win over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday. Missouri is 5-4 and they will go on the road to Mississippi State this Saturday in their final regular season game of the season.
The Kansas City Chiefs built a 30-10 lead over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, then held on for dear life as the Dolphins rallied with 17 4th quarter points, but the Chiefs held on for a 33-27 win to go to 12-1 on the year and clinch the AFC West Championship for the 5th straight year. Patrick Mahomes was 23 for 34 and 393 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. The Chiefs play the Saints this Sunday starting at 3:25 at New Orleans.
