The Owensville Dutchmen beat the Salem Baseball Tigers Monday afternoon, 5-2 as Jordan Shults drove in both Salem runs in the game. Salem drops to 1-3 and will host the Licking Wildcats this afternoon at 4:30. That game can be heard on KSMO starting at 4:15.
The Salem Track teams will be at the Cuba Open today at 3:30, the Salem Golf Tigers will hold their Open today at 4:00, and the Salem Tennis Tigers will be at Houston today at 4:00
Ivan Barbashev, Zach Sanford and Ryan O’Reilly scored to help the St. Louis Blues beat the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 Monday night in St. Louis. Jordan Binnington made 24 saves for his 21st victory of the season. The Blues will be at New York Friday night.

Funeral services for Jimmy Clark Purcell of Salem, age 85, will be Wednesday at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Akers Cemetery.
Funeral services for Robert Irving Cowling, of Dillard, age 83, will be Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday night from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Brsuh Creek cemetery at Gray Summit.
Funeral services for Lewis Dunlap of Licking, age 82, will be this Saturday morning at 11:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be held prior to services starting at 9:00.
Funeral services for Norma Pearl Hicks, of Rolla, age 92, will be Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from Saturday morning from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Avenue Baptist Church. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
Funeral services for Joseph “Joe” Perkins, of Oklahoma City, OK, formerly of Steelville, age 80, will be Sunday afternoon at 1:00 at the Steelville Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 until 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Arlington national Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

Local News – Monday, March 25th, 2019
An accident happened in Dent County Friday morning at 6:20 on Highway 19 about 16 miles north of Salem that took the life of a man from Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1992 Ford LTL 9000 Dump Truck driven southbound by 56-year old James Whitman of Steelville, traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway and began to slide. The Dump Truck then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment that ejected Whitman from the vehicle. Whitman was pronounced dead at the scene by Dent County Coroner Gina White at 7:33. Whitman was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. His body was taken to the Dent County Coroner’s Office by the coroner. The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Dent County Fire Protection District, the Steelville Fire Department, the Dent County Sheriff’s Office, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Salem EMS. The Ford Dump Truck was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.
A one-vehicle accident occurred in Phelps County at 2:12 Thursday afternoon on Highway 68 about three miles south of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2014 BMW driven by 23-year old Jerid Land of Salem, traveled off the right side of the roadway, then returned to the roadway crossing the centerline. The driver then overcorrected and traveled back off the right side of the roadway, striking a fence before the BMW came to rest in a field. Land was transported by EMS to Phelps Health for treatment of moderate injuries. According to the report, the driver was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The BMW sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Spurgeon’s Towing.
The Dent County Health Center Board of Trustees met Monday, March 18th. Administrator Kendra Mobray reported a new Helmer pharmaceutical refrigerator was scheduled to be delivered on March 19th. After it is inspected by a VFC representative, vaccines can be moved back to the Health Center. Outpatient lab services were provided to 46 clients the month of February. Mobray attended the SEMA quarterly meeting on March 14th as well as the Southwest Health Care Coalition meeting on March 20th. Salem High School students and prevention coalition members presented a tobacco prevention teach-in to R-80, R-1, and R-3 4th graders last week. In Dent County, there was one case of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever that was investigated in February. Influenza activity in Missouri is widespread. There have been 163 confirmed cases of influenza reported for Dent County and one influenza-related death. Mobray reported the Health Center is in the process of applying for a Show-Me Healthy Women contract with the Department of Health and Senior Services. If approved, the contract will allow the health center to provide well-woman exams and mammograms at no cost to qualifying individuals. Kelly Miller, the CEO of Your Community Health Center, presented an overview of the services provided at their Rolla facility and discussed how their Health Center is serving people from Dent County as well. The Board of Trustees set the next regular board meeting date for Monday, April 15, at 5:00 at the Health Center. The meeting was then adjourned.
A three vehicle accident occurred Saturday, March 16th, at 9:27 in the morning on Highway 19 near Seventh Street. According to the Salem Police report, a 2004 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Gregory Diehl of Salem; a 2007 Chevrolet Mailbu, driven by Julia Plank of Salem; and a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Richard Ferguson of Salem, were all traveling north on Highway 19. The Diehl vehicle failed to see the Mailbu stop in traffic behind the Silverado, causing a chain reaction accident. The Diehl and Ferguson vehicles sustained moderate damage while the Malibu driven by Plank received extensive damage and was towed from the scene. Plank sought her own medical treatment for a possible minor injury.

The Ava Bears shut-out the Salem Tigers in a lop-sided affair Thursday in five innings, 14-0. Salem had three hits and six errors in the game. The Tigers are 1-2 and are scheduled to be at Owensville this afternoon at 4:30. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio starting at 4:15.
The Salem Tennis Tigers start their season this afternoon at Richland starting at 4:00 while the Salem Golf Team will be at Mountain View-Liberty also starting at 4:00 for their first match.
Robert Thomas, Alexander Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko scored goals in a 1:15 span in the first period and Jordan Binnington made 39 saves as the St. Louis Blues beat Tampa Bay Saturday night, 4-3. Brayden Schenn scored the game winner for the Blues in the 2nd period for St. Louis who will host the Las Vegas Golden Knights tonight starting at 6:30 or right after Salem Baseball on KSMO.
Evan Mendoza singled in Justin Toerner to give the Cardinals a 2-1 walk-off win in the 9th inning against Miami Sunday. The Cardinals will be in Memphis to take on the Red Birds tonight in their final exhibition game.
The St. Louis Cardinals Saturday signed six-time National League All-Star first baseman Paul Goldschmidt to a five-year (2020-24) contract extension. Goldschmidt was acquired by the Cardinals on December 5th, 2018 in a four-player trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Kort Peterson and Cam Gallagher homered as the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers tied, 3-3 on Sunday in the final exhibition game for the Royals. The Royals ended up with an 18-12 spring training record.

The Salem Baseball Tigers were defeated by Ava Thursday 14 to 0 in 5 innings. The Tigers had only 3 hits, while committing 6 errors.
The St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Yankees 11 to3 mid-day Thursday. Then the Washington Nationals beat the Cardinals in the night cap 7 to 1. They will play the New York Mets at noon today. They will face Washington Saturday and Miami on Sunday. Both games are at 11:45 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals will face San Francisco today at 8:05 in pre-season play. The Royals will take on Milwaukee on Saturday at 3:00 and face Texas Sunday at 2:00.
Ivan Barbashev recorded his first career NHL hat trick to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. They will face Tampa Bay tomorrow starting at 6:30 on KSMO.
