Obituaries – Friday, October 13th, 2017
Funeral services for Clarence E. Duncan of Salem, age 81, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
A memorial service for Robert E. Sieli of Salem, age 72, will be held this Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Salem Full Gospel Church in Salem. Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. All arrangements are under the direction of Rolla Cremation and Memorial.
Funeral services for Etta Elizabeth (LeFever) Melton of Edgar Springs, age 91, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Smith Cemetery.

Funeral services for Richard Kenney Stogsdill of Rolla, age 57, will be Monday at 11:00 at the New Harmony Church, Salem. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 until 11:00. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stogsdill Family for funeral expenses. All arrangement are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Ian McCoshen scored his first NHL goal and Vincent Trocheck scored a shorthanded goal 1:19 later as Florida beat the St. Louis Blues, 5-2. Paul Stastny and Vince Dunn scored for the Blues who will be in Tampa Bay Saturday night starting at 5:30 with the pre-game show and 6:00 game time on KSMO.

An accident occurred at 12:30 Wednesday afternoon in Phelps County on Interstate 44 at the westbound 188 mile marker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Dodge Neon driven by 21-year old Treyson Miller of Rolla, collided with a 2009 Kia Spectra, driven by 22-year old Tanner Orr of St. James. After the collision, the Dodge Neon ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned, ejecting Miller, who suffered serious injuries and was transported by Phelps County Ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. According to the report, both drivers were wearing their seat restraints. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing, while the Kia sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.
The Salem Police has released some recent reports. On Thursday morning, September 28th at about 5:56, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Iron Mountain Road in reference to someone taking a vehicle without permission. The investigation of the report revealed that a 15-year old male and a 16-year old female, both juveniles of Salem, had taken a black 2001 Mercury Mariner from a residence. Further investigation revealed the vehicle had been driven off the road and struck a tree. The vehicle was recovered in Bunker, Missouri. The two juvenile suspects were detained for tampering with a motor vehicle and later released to parents. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Monday, October 2nd at approximately 5:42 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to a residence in the 800 block of West Glendale in reference to a broken window on a vehicle. Thte investigation of the report revealed that a 43-year old female of Salem had damaged a passenger door glass valued at $120.00 on a vehicle with a BB gun. he suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday morning, October 3rd at approximately 10:59, an officer was detailed to a traffic crash at the Salem Post Office. That investigation revealed a 74-year old male of Salem had driven into the building striking the framed glass wall and inner door. When the framed glass wall collapsed after being struck, it hit a 65-year old male of Salem causing minor injuries. Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver for driving while being intoxicated. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. There were no other injuries reported. The building sustained extensive damages. On Wednesday morning, October 4th at about 2:47, an officer located two subjects at a residence in the 700 block of South Sligo who had active arrest warrants. A 24-year old female of Edgar Springs was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Licking. The suspect was incarcerated pending extradition. A 32-year old male of Licking was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Rolla. The suspect was released to Dent County Sheriffs Department for extradition. That same evening at approximately 8:50, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Hawkins in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed an intoxicated 38-year old male of Salem was being aggressive and threatening to kill people at the residence. The suspect was taken into custody for disorderly conduct, issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Bluegrass music will be performed on the stage. Performers from the Rolla and St. Clair areas will be entertaining with some great and interesting sounds. Cloggers will also be performing. The Salem Cross Country Team will participate in the Mountain Grove Cross Country Invitational today at 4:00.
The Salem Middle School Football Teams (7th and 8th grade) will wrap up their seasons this afternoon when they travel to West Plains to face the Zizzers. The games start at 5:30.
The St. Louis Blues will be in Florida tonight at 6:30 to face the Panthers. The Blues are 4-0-0 to start out season. You can hear the pre-game show on KSMO Radio starting at 6:00.

Each year Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) honors residents of the Meramec Region who give to their communities by volunteering their time, talents and support. This year, 10 awards will be presented at MRPC’s 2017 Annual Dinner October 26th at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory at 1200 West Rolla Road. MRPC will recognize the following volunteers for contributions to their communities and will include Henry and Mary Wansing of Vienna, Bill Reynolds of Loose Creek, Sean Wilson of Waynesville, and th late Neil Richards of Potosi. Youth nominees are Tyler Roberds of Meta, Baylee Rebecka Bilyeu of Salem and Maxwell Butler of Belle. The Community Organization nomines are Ya Ya of Belle and City Administrator Harold Selby of St. James. The Eugene E. Northern award, the highest honor given by MRPC for volunteers and community service, will also be announced at the annual dinner. The award recipient is kept secret until announced at the Annual Dinner. The public is invited to attend the event at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory in Salem. A reception, featuring wine from Red Moose Vineyards, will be held prior to the event at 5:30 p.m. and will include a silent auction and exhibits. Dinner, catered by Country Seasons Catering, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a program and awards presentation to follow. Tickets for the event will cost $30. The Dent County Sheriff’s office has released some reports. On Sunday October 1st, deputies responded to a residence on East Roosevelt for an intoxicated subject repeatedly calling 911. Deputies made contact with a 38-year old Salem man and discovered that he had a misdemeanor warrant in Dent County. He was arrested, transported to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. On Monday October 2nd, deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Center and Pershing. After a short investigation, a 27-year old Salem woman was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. Later that same day, deputies responded to Dent County Road 6490 for a report of someone passed out in a vehicle. After a short investigation, a 31-year old Salem man was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. On Tuesday October 3rd, deputies conducted a traffic stop at Highway C and County Road 2580. It was discovered that the driver, a 46-year old Edgar Springs woman, had a Phelps County warrant for her arrest. She was taken into custody and was later extradited to Phelps County. That same day, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway UU. The driver, a 43-year old Salem man, was arrested for driving while having his license suspended. He was taken to the Dent County Jail, fingerprinted, and released on a summons to appear in court. On Wednesday October 4th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Franklin Street near Highway 72. After a short investigation, a 25-year old Salem man was arrested for the possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. On Friday October 6th, deputies responded to a residence on County Road 4170 in reference to a subject with a warrant. Contact was made with the 22-year old Salem woman and she was taken into custody. She was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail. I Heart Salem is an effort to clean up the appearance of our town, build community pride, and connect community volunteers to local service projects. On Sunday, October 8th, ten volunteers assisted with a clean-up project at a home on Water Street. The group removed a broken fence, moved trash to the curb for clean-up week pick up, and cleaned up the yard of leaves, branches and walnuts! Could you use a hand with a home project? The Willow Springs Lady Bears beat Salem, 25-11 and 25-17 Tuesday night at the SHS gym on Senior Night. The Lady Volleyball Tigers regular season ended with a 6-20-2 record. The JV won in three games: 25-16, 22-25 & 25-17. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers are seeded 6th in the Class 3, District 9 playoffs. The Salem Lady Tigers will face Owensville at 7:30 on Monday, October 16th at the Owensville High School Gym. The winner of that game will play the winner of the St. James and St. Clair game Tuesday at 6:15 at Owensville.

Through three games, the St. Louis Blues had trailed for only 114 seconds. They did not add to that total as Carl Gunnarsson scored 15 seconds into the game and St. Louis went on to a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Brayden Schenn and Jaden Schwartz also scored, and Carter Hutton made 32 saves in his first start of the season for the Blues who remained undefeated after four games. The Blues will be in Florida Thursday night at 6:00 and in Tampa Saturday night at 5:30 on KSMO Radio.
