Rebekah Kirker led off the 8th inning with a homer and also doubled and drove in four on the night as Salem Lady Softball Tigers came back from a 5-0 deficit early in the game to beat Houston, 9-7. Alyssa Bowers and Trista Heavin each had three hits for Salem who improved to 5-3 on the year and they will host Cuba Thursday afternoon at 4:30.

The Salem JV Football Tigers lost to the Houston JV Football Tigers, 44-0 Tuesday evening. The next game for the JV will be against Thayer Monday at Salem starting at 6:00.

Jose Martinez drove in three runs with a pair of homers, and Harrison Bader added a three-run homer Tuesday night as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the San Diego Padres 8-4 to score a second straight win at Petco Park. The Cardinals and Padres play again tonight at 8:15 on KSMO Radio.

JaCoby Jones blasted two of Detroit’s six home runs, including a two-run shot during a seven-run second inning, and the Tigers snapped a five-game losing streak by pounding the Kansas City Royals 13-2 on Wednesday at Comerica Park. Royals starter Jason Vargas (14-10) lasted two innings, his shortest outing of the season. Vargas, who gave up seven runs and six hits, has lost his last four starts and six of his last seven. Lorenzo Cain hit a solo homer for Kansas City. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.
