The Salem Fall Sports Banquet will be held this Thursday at the Salem High School cafeteria. Athletes from football, cross country, softball and volleyball will be honored along with the fall cheerleaders. The banquet begins at 6:30.

Registration for the City of Salem Youth Basketball League for boys and girls from Kindergarten through 6th grade is going on now at the Salem Community Center@The Armory and at the City Administrative offices. The St. Louis Cardinals announced the team has outrighted infielder Alex Mejia and catcher Alberto Rosario off the team’s 40-man Major League roster and given right-handed pitcher Trevor Rosenthal his unconditional release. Mejia will be assigned to the triple-A Memphis roster and Rosario is now eligible to become a minor league free-agent. The Cardinals also announced that they have tendered a qualifying offer to free-agent pitcher Lance Lynn.
