Rebekah Kirker had three of the Salem six hits including a two-run homer in the 3rd inning and added an RBI double in the 7th as the Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat St. James, 5-2 in Class 3, District 9 play. Trista Heavin gave up only five hits, two runs, struck out five and walked no one in getting the win. Taylor Bradshaw added two hits for the Lady Tigers who will face the #1 seed, the Sullivan Lady Eagles this afternoon in the district semi-final at 4:30. Salem is now 14-10 on the season. The Salem Lady Varsity Volleyball Tigers will be at Cabool in SCA Conference play tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV contest.

The Salem Middle School Football Team will host Houston today at 5:30 at the SHS High School Football Field.

Alex Pietrangelo’s second goal of the game came early in overtime to lead the Sat. Louis Blues to a 5-4 win over the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. Brayden Schenn, Paul Stastny and Colton Parayko also scored for the Blues who will come home to face the Dallas Stars Saturday night at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that long time pitching coach Derek Lilliquist and bullpen coach Blaise Ilsley will not have their contracts renewed for next season.
