Mookie Betts ripped a two-run double off the Green Monster to cap a three-run, ninth-inning rally and give the Boston Red Sox a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. The win, which completed a four-game Boston sweep of the Cardinals this season, kept the Red Sox 4 1/2 games ahead of the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Cardinals start a four game series in Pittsburgh tonight starting at 5:10 on KSMO Radio.

Lorenzo Cain launched a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Alex Gordon hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth, lifting the Kansas City Royals to a 7-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday afternoon. Royal’s left-hander Danny Duffy allowed four runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over five innings in a no-decision. The Royals will have the day off.
