Quinci Leslie ran the ball 14 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns as the Salem Football Tigers defense made two goal-line stands to give Salem a 20-7 Homecoming win over the Willow Springs Bears. Chandler Gray scored the other Salem touchdown after they had gone 10 straight quarters without scoring. Salem is 3-3 on the year and 2-2 in the SCA. They will host Mountain Grove Friday night and it will be Senior Night.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Varsity Tigers lost to Ava Thursday night at the SHS Gym in three games. Salem won the first game, 28-26, then lost to the Lady Bears 25-21 and 25-13. The JV won in two straight games: 25-20 and 25-23. The Lady Volleyball Tigers are now 5-10-1 on the year and will be in Bunker tonight at 6:00.

The Salem Softball Tigers begin their final week of the regular season as they will be at St. Clair today to face the Lady Bulldogs starting at 4:30. Salem is 11-6 on the year.

Auburn running back Kerryon Johnson rushed for five touchdowns and Auburn rolled past Missouri 51-14 on Saturday in Columbia. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock threw touchdown passes to Damarea Crockett and J’Mon Moore. Missouri lost its third straight game and falls to 1-3 on the year and 0-1 in the SEC Conference. They will have Saturday off.

Starling Marte’s two-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Pirates the lead for good as Pittsburgh beat St. Louis, 4-1 to take two of three games from St. Louis over the weekend. Jordan Luplow also homered and tripled for Pittsburgh. Matt Carpenter’s home run was the only offense St. Louis could muster as the Chicago Cubs will be in St. Louis tonight to start a four game series at 6:20 on KSMO.

Avisail Garcia hit his 18th home run of the season and Lucas Giolito threw seven strong innings to lead the Chicago White Sox to an 8-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon, hurting the Royals’ playoff chances. Lorenzo Cain’s homer was the only run scored for Kansas City who will be at New York to face the Yankees today.

Alex Smith threw for two touchdowns and Philip Rivers heaved three interceptions as the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-10 before a crowd of 25,386 at the StubHub Center on Sunday. Smith was 16 of 21 for 155 yards. The Chiefs are 3-0 on the year and will face Washington on Monday, October 2nd.
