Garrett Young scored the only touchdown of the game in the 3rd quarter and finished with 179 yards rushing as the Thayer Bobcats beat the Salem Tigers in a defensive battle Friday night, 8-0. The Tigers fall to 2-2 on the year and 1-1 in the SCA. They will play at Ava Friday night.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers took 2nd in the Potosi Tournament Saturday losing to Potosi in the final game, 5-2. Earlier in the day, the Lady Tigers beat Sikeston in the first game, 7-6; then walloped Jefferson R-7 out of Festus, 15-2 in the second game. Salem is now 8-4 on the year and they will be home Tuesday to host Steelville starting at 4:30.

Deebo Samuel scored two touchdowns within a 15-second span of the second quarter, and South Carolina rallied from an early 10-0 deficit to defeat Missouri 31-13 on Saturday night in Columbia, Mo. in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. Drew Lock was limited to one TD pass and was intercepted twice. South Carolina scored 14 points as the result of Missouri turnovers. Missouri is now 1-1 on the year and they will face Purdue Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at Faurot Field.

Yadier Molina slammed a three-run homer and matched his career high with five RBIs to back eight shutout innings from Michael Wacha and lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-0 win Sunday over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The win completed a sweep of the three-game series and was the ninth in their last 11 games for the Cardinals, who moved to a season-best seven games over .500. Randal Grichuk also homered for St. Louis who has the day off today.

Eric Hosmer had four hits, including two in a six-run second inning, and Brandon Moss homered and drove in four runs as the Kansas City Royals downed the Minnesota Twins 11-3 on Sunday afternoon. Royals left-hander Jason Vargas (15-10) made it through five innings to pick up his first victory since Aug. 13. The Royals will host the Chicago White Sox tonight.
