On Friday, Dalton Cook’s two out single in the bottom of the 7th inning brought in the tying run and Boone Schrader drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning driving in Jon Arzt as Salem beat Owensville in the first round of District play, 5-4. Then on Saturday, the Blair Oak Falcons exploded for five runs in the 1st inning and added two more in the 2nd inning on a Garrett Welschmeyer two-run homer, then hung on as the Salem Tigers came back with five runs in the last three innings only to fall short, 9-6 in the District Semi-Final. Lawson Toman was 3-3 Saturday while Dalton Cook, Jon Arzt and Kory Ramsey all had two hits in the game. Salem finished the year with a 17-4 record and SCA Champs. Congratulations Tigers on a great season!

The Salem Track Teams participated in the District Track meet on Saturday and the Tigers will advance 10 athletes in 20 events to the State Sectional Track meet at Eldon High School. Advancing to the State Sectional for the Lady Tigers will be in Baylee Bilyeu as she took 2nd in Shot Put and 2nd in Discus as well as Kirsten Golden who captured 2nd in Pole Vault. On the men’s side individually, JD Bowling will advance as he placed 2nd in Shot Put, 2nd in Discus and 4th in Javelin; Ty Conley won the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes, Texas Nall captured 2nd in the 400 Meter, Marcus Jessen came in 3rd in the 1600 Meter, and Logan Woolf took 2nd in the High Jump and 4th in the Long Jump. The team of Ty Conley, Bryan Marlin, Texas Nall and Keoni Wilson took 2nd in the 4 x 400 Meter Relay, and the team of Payton Deese, Marcus Jessen, Bryan Marlin and Keoni Wilson won the 4 x 800 Relay. The Salem Men’s Track Team took 3rd behind St. James and Owensville in districts while the Lady Tigers came in 8th. Congratulations to all the individuals and relay teams for your work at districts and the best to you in the state sectional Saturday!

Adam Wainwright (3-3) enjoyed his best outing of the year on Sunday as he gave up just four hits, walking four and fanning three in seven shutout innings as the St. Louis Cardinals treated the largest crowd in Busch Stadium III history to a series win over the shorthanded, struggling Chicago Cubs, winning Sunday, 5-0. Battery mate Yadier Molina offered Wainwright all the support he needed with two homers, and Matt Carpenter added a two run shot off Jake Arrieta, first hit in 29 regular-season at-bats against him. The Cardinals are now 21-15 on the year and will be off today.

Mike Moustakas, Jorge Soler and Drew Butera homered as the Kansas City Royals completed a three-game sweep with a 9-8 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Moustakas drove in four runs, including three with a fourth-inning homer. Butera had three hits and scored three runs and drove in two. The Royals won for the fifth time in six games and will be off today.
