Lance Lynn in his longest start since May 23rd, Lynn fired seven shutout innings Sunday to lead St. Louis to a 6-0 win over the New York Mets at Busch Stadium. Lynn (7-6) gave up three hits and a walk, striking out a season-low two. Two of the three hits were erased on double plays as New York (39-47) never got a runner to second base. Offensively, Paul DeJong who went 4-4 on Saturday with ahome run and three doubles, stayed hot by going 2-for-4 with a 434-foot solo homer to left-center field in the fourth inning to cap an epic series. He finished 9-for-12 with four doubles and three homers to go along with four RBIs. Tommy Pham and Luke Voit also cracked homers for St. Louis (43-45), which has won 10 of its last 15 games going to the break. Pham finished 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the game as the Cardinals and Chicago Cubs are tied for second place in the National League Central Division 5 1/2 games behind Milwaukee.

Clayton Kershaw struck out 13 in a complete-game effort to win his 14th game of the season, and Justin Turner hit a pair of home runs as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, 5-2. Kershaw only had problems with Eric Hosmer who had three of Kansas City’s hits, a pair of singles and a two-run home run in the fourth. Royal’s starter Danny Duffy (5-5) pitched well allowing only six hits, unfortunately three of them were home runs. He also struck out nine. The Royals are now 44-43 at the break and in third place in the American League Central.

Tonight on ESPN at 7:00 it will be the Home Run Derby. There are no St. Louis Cardinal players in the contest, but the Royals will have third baseman Mike Moustakas in the contest. He will face Miguel Sano’ of the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round.
