Eric Thames 18th homer of the year, a two-run shot in the top of the 9th inning, was the difference as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cardinals, 6-4. Dexter Fowler homered for the Cardinals and Matt Carpenter had two doubles. Seung Hwan Oh took the loss for St. Louis after Michael Wacha started and only went four innings giving up four runs on seven hits. After having won four straight games, the Red Birds have dropped their last three. The Cardinals will be on the road for their next six games starting tonight in Baltimore at 5:10 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed second baseman Kolten Wong on the 10-day disabled list with right tricep strain and recalled rookie infielder Paul DeJong from Triple-A Memphis. The 26-year old Wong was removed from Wednesday night’s game against Milwaukee in the top of the 6th inning and was replace by Greg Garcia for the remainder of the game.

Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon hit solo home runs as part of a 15-hit attack and the Kansas City Royals extended their winning streak to a season-high five games with a 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night. Gordon had three hits and Cain, Salvador Perez, Whit Merrifield, Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar two each for the Royals. Kansas City also received another stout effort from a pitcher making his first major league start. Left-hander Matt Strahm (2-3), whose previous 42 appearances were in relief, allowed three hits and one unearned run in five innings. The Royals play the Angels again tonight.
