Jose Reyes hit an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, lifting the New York Mets to a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday afternoon. Reyes gave the Mets the win when he sharply hit the first pitch from Trevor Rosenthal (2-4) to first baseman Matt Carpenter. Carpenter fielded the ball cleanly but when he went to make the throw, Rosenthal did not cover first base and Reyes slid in head-first to allow Yoenis Cespedes to cross home plate. Tommy Pham slugged his 13th homer of the season in the game. St. Louis will be at Chicago today to face the Cubs starting at 12:25 on KSMO. Saturday’s game will be held on a delayed basis after the 4-H and FFA Livestock auction on KSMO at about 4:15, and Sunday’s game will be at 6:10.

Mike Moustakas had three hits and drove in three runs, and Brandon Moss had four RBIs as the Kansas City Royals trounced the Detroit Tigers 16-4 on Thursday night to gain a split of a four-game series. The Royals will be in Chicago this weekend to face the White Sox for a three game series starting tonight.

The 24-year-old Blues defenseman Kolton Parayko avoided arbitration on Thursday by agreeing to a new five-year, $27.5 million contract that will keep him in St. Louis through the 2021-22 season.
