It is that time of year to spring forward as we move into Daylight Savings Time this weekend, thus gaining more daylight hours. You can either set your clock ahead one hour Saturday night before you go to bed or Sunday morning when you get up. Daily Savings Time will actually begin at 2:00 in the morning Sunday morning.

An accident happened Monday in Crawford County on Highway 8 about two miles east of Steelville at 3:15 in the afternoon. According to the highway patrol, a 2012 Ford Fusion driven eastbound by 56-year old Janis Cox of Steelville, was making a right turn into a driveway when the Fusion was struck from behind by a 2005 Saturn View driven by 17-year old Kyle Weidman of Steelville. Cox suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. Weidman suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Creve Coeur by air ambulance. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint. The Ford was totaled and removed by owner. The Saturn was also towed and removed by Miles and Sons towing.

An accident occurred at 3:57 in the afternoon on Thursday, March 2nd on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 driven by Robert Atkinson of Salem was westbound on Highway 32 in the inner lane approaching Route J on a red traffic light. The Dodge failed to stop at the red light and made contact with a 2017 Chevy Malibu driven by Lydia Whitaker of Salem that was southbound on Route J, crossing highway 32 on a green light. Due to the impact, the Chevy Malibu was spun around and made contact with a 2016 Nissan driven by Robin Shults of Salem that was behind the Chevy Malibu on Route J crossing Highway 32 with a green light. Atkinson stated his brakes failed and that he pushed the pedal to the floor and was unable to stop. Atkinson and an occupant suffered minor injuries and were transported by private transportation to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment. Shults suffered probable injuries and wished to seek her own medical treatment. The Dodge sustained moderate damage while the Chevy Malibu and the Nissan sustained extensive damage.

An accident occurred at 9:47 in the morning on Monday, March 6th on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2013 Ford Fusion driven by Helen Stanfast of Salem was westbound on Highway 32 in the outer lane approaching Park Street. At that time, a 2006 Pontiac G-6 driven by Nichole Judd of Salem was southbound on Park and was stopped at the stop sign at Highway 32. The Pontiac started to make a right turn onto Highway 32 and contact was made with the Ford. Judd stated that the Ford right turn signal was on. Judd suffered probable minor injuries and wished to seek her own transportation by private means and went to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is holding an online public meeting to share information about an upcoming project on a section of Route 68 from Interstate 44 to the east junction of Missouri Route 8 within the city of St. James. The project, which is a cost-sharing partnership between MoDOT and the city of St. James, will include a surface treatment that will extend the life of the pavement. The project also includes various Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements to sidewalks and curb ramps along the section of Route 68 in St. James. Work will begin as early as May 2017 and will be completed by October of 2017. Traffic will be maintained on the route during the majority of construction. One-lane closures will be required periodically during the project. An online comment form is also available on the project website for anyone who would like to provide feedback. Kevin Puryear made a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in overtime to give Missouri a dramatic 86-83 victory over Auburn in the Southeastern Conference tournament Wednesday night. Puryear scored 30 points for 14th-seeded Missouri (8-23). Cullen VanLeer scored 16 points, including some clutch 3-pointers. Jordan Geist had 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Missouri will play Ole Miss tonight at 8:00 on KSMO.

The Red Bird bats continued to be hot as they banged out 14 hits and beat the Washington Nationals, 9-3 Wednesday. Randal Grichuk, Dexter Fowler, Aledmys Diaz and Harrison Bader each had two hits in the game including a homer for Bader. St. Louis is now 9-3 in the spring. Michael Wacha got the win going three innings allowing only two hits. The Cardinals will face Houston today.

The Kansas City Royals will be off again today after having yesterday off. They will next play Friday against Oakland.

Funeral services for Harvey Ryno of Licking, age 85, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Lee Setzer of Dillard, age 82, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for Montie Ray Asher of Bixby, age 78, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Trolinger Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trolinger Cemetery.

Funeral services for Albion Seth “Al” Hayman of Salem, age 95, will be held Saturday at 9:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 with a Masonic service at 7:30. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
